Top quality stud near Helmsley
Overlooking the Vale of York, above the small town of Helmsley.

Sir Henry Cecil was long associated with this picturesque stud overlooking the Vale of York, treasuring it as a place to raise and rest racehorses.
Cliff Stud is situated high above Helmsley, famous for its castle and Lord Feversham's Duncombe Park Estate, from whom the stud is leased. It was originally known as Helmsley Stud, founded by William Thorpe with trainer Matthew Peacock just before the Second World War.
After Mr Thorpe's death, the stud was taken over by Noel Murless, who had trained nearby at Hambleton Lodge and Hambleton House before moving south, though he always remained fond of Yorkshire.
The stud will continue to follow Sir Henry's desire to raise youngstock fit to grace the most prestigious races across the world. By sending your horses to Cliff Stud you can be assured of top quality care with a rich tradition of success.
